Sears Price Protection Policy

My husband needed a new shovel two weeks ago and we purchased one at Sears. Of course that same shovel went on sale this weekend.

It turns out that Sears has a Price Protection Policy. The policy states that "if an item you have purchased from Sears goes on sale for a lower price within 30 days of your purchase, Sears will refund the difference." Just take your receipt to the Sears store where you made the purchase and they will refund the difference between the original price paid and the current reduced price. If you made the purchase online, you need to email the sales check number and the item for which you are requesting a price adjustment to priceprotection@customerservice.sears.com.

Sears also has a Price Match Plus Policy for competitors' prices. They will match the price plus give you 10% of the difference if you find an identical item at a local competitor retail store. All you need to do is bring in the sale ad to Sears and present it at the time of purchase or within 30 days after your purchase. This policy also applies to some online competitors. Shoppers Triple Play Coupons in Washington Post

More Shoppers coupons in the Washington Post!

There are two coupons on page A15 of Thursday's paper. One is good for $5 off a $25 purchase and the other is for $10 off a $50 purchase. You can also use the two coupons together to get $15 off a $75 purchase. The coupons are valid Thursday, 3/26 through Sunday, 3/29 only.

Remember that Super Fresh (at least in the DC area) has started accepting competitor's coupons, so you can use these coupons there too!

Super Fresh Deals 3/20-3/26

My Maryland ad says that Super Fresh is now accepting all of their competitor's coupons! I don't know if this new policy is true for all regions. Check your local ad. If you have a Shoppers in your area, check out their weekly circular for a store coupon for $10 off when you purchase 10 participating Kellogg's products (including the Kellogg's cereals on sale for $1.99 at Super Fresh this week).

Super Deal Alert: If you can muster up 10 of the $.70 off Kellogg's cereal coupons from the 2/22 Red Plum insert and the Shoppers $10 off coupon, you should be able to get 10 boxes of cereal and 3 coupons for free gallons of milk (see below) for 10 cents!!! Super Fresh's coupon policy allows you to stack manufacturer's coupons and store coupons. Old Navy Weekly Coupons: Say Bye to High Value Coupons Until April

I received word from Old Navy today that they were not going to be publishing new $75 off and $50 off coupons on the Old Navy Weekly coupon site again until April. Here is what they had to say:

"We thought we were being sneaky hiding coupons for up to $75 and $50 off on OldNavyWeekly.com. We thought it’d take some serious snooping skills for anyone to find these fabulous coupons. Then we launched the site and over million visitors proved us very, very wrong. You all hunted and found the coupons in record time week after week and in the process even managed to shut down our site a few times due to overwhelming traffic. So, while we’re flattered by all the attention we need a little time to regroup—or rather find ways to make this game of ours a little trickier to solve. You can use it in-store, online (coupon code: CLUTTERCREW) or by phone. Unfortunately, you cannot combine the coupon with other offers and it is not good on sale items.

How I Shop for Groceries

Recently a friend saw my grocery shopping list and was amused by the odd assortment of items I was planning to buy. That week I was only planning to buy grapes, hot dog buns, cheese, milk, carrots, and apples. Obviously it was not enough to feed a family of 4 for a week but I don't base my shopping list on what meals I am planning to make for the week. My shopping list is built upon what is on sale and what coupons I have. I stock up on items when I can get a good price and then I plan a weekly menu out of my well-stocked pantry and freezer. I may have to pick up a few items for specific meals I want to make but most of the ingredients I have already purchased in the past when I could get a good price.

An Example:
During the week I am highlighting here, there were some decent sales and I also purchased a handful of items that I needed for meals that I had planned. I shopped at Safeway, Super Fresh, Trader Joe's and Costco. I bought very few fruits and vegetables because I had a bunch left from the previous week. I also had to stock up to feed my (very un-frugal) Trader Joe's hummus snacking addiction.

In case you missed the Shoppers coupon for free cereal in yesterday's Washington Post, there is another one in today's paper on page A13. There is a limit of 1 coupon per customer.

Shoppers Trip: $1 Double Coupons

Shoppers is doubling coupons up to $1 through Sunday. Combine that with $1 Coke 2 liters and a coupon for free cereal and they lured me into their store.

I don't usually shop at Shoppers because I always have a bad experience. My local store never seems prepared for their special promotions and checkout with coupons is always a hassle for me. Today, some of my coupons beeped so the cashier declared that the register wasn't going to take them, she handed the coupons back to me and acted like that was that. The coupons were completely legit and I bought the stated sizes and amounts so I very politely insisted that they needed to accept them. The store manager came over and took care of the coupons, all the while telling me how much he hated double coupon days.

I never feel bad about insisting that stores honor their promotions. If they are going to advertise a sale to get me into the store, then they need to prepare their staff to follow through. They failed today. I am not a regular shopper at Shoppers because they always make me feel unwelcome during their special sales.

Despite my troubles, I still had a good haul with the double coupons:


I paid $10 for 10 Diet Coke 2 Liters and $5.32 for everything else.

I was just getting around to reading today's Washington Post at dinnertime and found a coupon for a free box of cereal at Shoppers. The coupon is on page A15 of the Thursday paper. You have to make an additional $10 purchase to use the coupon and it is valid through Sunday.

The ad also says that Shoppers is having unlimited double coupons up to $1 Thursday through Sunday. No other store in the area doubles $1 coupons (most double up to $.99) so dig out those higher value coupons and make a trip to Shoppers.

$5 off a $5 Purchase Coupon for Kohls

I recently signed up for Kohls Sales Alerts when it was recommended by Heather at Freebies 4 Mom. Within a few days, Kohls emails you a coupon for $5 off a $5 minimum in store purchase and a coupon code for 10% off at Kohls.com.

In the two weeks since I have signed up, I have also received two coupons for $10 off a $10 minimum in store purchase! My local Kohls store is remodeling and they are trying to lure in customers during the construction with these coupons. You can use these $10 off coupons along with percent off discount coupons but the percent off is applied after the $10 is taken off the total. I bought these two dresses for $.84 (rainbow Carter's, reg. price $22) and $1.70 (blue, reg. price $20) using the $10 off coupons and 15% off coupons.



When I visited today and bought the blue dress, they gave me yet another $10 off coupon that is valid next week!

So if your local Kohls store undergoes a remodel, I highly recommend signing up for the Sale Alert emails.

(Slightly) Discounted Stamps at Costco

I just noticed this weekend a Costco membership perk that I hadn't realized before: Costco sells 100 Forever postage stamps for $41.75. Now, I do realize that this is only a savings of .0025 cents per stamp but purchasing stamps during my Costco shopping trip will also save me a trip to the post office.

This spring is a good time to purchase those 100 Forever stamps. Stamp prices are going to increase from 42 cents to 44 cents on May 11, 2009. That means 100 Forever stamps will cost $44 at the post office after the price increase. Get your Costco stamps before the increase and save $2.25 off the post-increase price.

IKEA Sales Tax Discount March 7 & 8

IKEA stores in College Park & Baltimore, MD and Woodbridge, VA are offering a discount equal to the sales tax on all your purchases on March 7 & 8, 2009. The promotion excludes purchases from the IKEA Restaurant, Bistro and Swedish Food Market. Customer does pay sales tax on the discounted purchases.

Other IKEA stores may also be offering this promotion but I only know for sure about these 3 stores. If you are outside the DC metro area, I would recommend contacting your local store to find out if they are participating.

Also on March 7 & 8th, you can get a family meal combo (2.5lb bag of meatballs, a jar of lingonberry preserves and 2 packets of cream sauce) for $9.99. The combo usually costs $11.99. You can also get any dessert for $1 with the purchase of an adult entree in the IKEA Restaurant.

Old Navy Weekly Coupon Site

Old Navy has a coupon site where you click around the page to find coupons to use in-store. Today I found coupons for 5%, 10% or 15% off any in-store purchase. It appears that there were also 20% off coupons, $50 off a $100 purchase coupons and $75 off a $100 purchase coupons that are no longer available! To find a coupon, you simply click around the page. You can only get one coupon, so if you find a 5% off coupon first, just keep looking for a better one. The coupons that you can print today expire on 3/5/09.
