Works For Me Wednesday: Reusing Candy Canes

My kids don't like to eat candy canes (Aaaaack! It's too minty! It's burning my tongue! It's burning my tongue!!!!) but they do like to decorate the Christmas tree with them. Instead of buying four boxes of candy canes each year and then throwing them out after the holidays, I put the candy canes in a Ziploc freezer bag and stick them in the freezer till next year. Freezing keeps them from getting all gummy and sticky. We have been using the same candy canes for at least three years and they look as good as they did the first year.




Note: I do not recommend eating candy canes after they have been frozen year after year. They pick up that been-in-the-freezer-too-long taste. Not yummy.

Reader Question: Stacking Super Fresh E-Coupons & Paper Coupons

Do you know if I can use a Superfresh clipless coupon from my card and stack it with a manufacturer coupon? I was wondering because they have Hellmans mayo for 2 for $6. They have a $1 off of 2 clipless coupon that I added to my card and I also have a $1 off 2 manufacturer coupon.

This is an excellent question. For other readers who may not know, you can now load clipless coupons directly from the Super Fresh site on to your Super Fresh Club card. For the most part, these e-coupons are not store coupons. They are paperless manufacturer coupons.

According to the FAQ section of the Super Fresh coupon website in response to the question about using both paper and clipless coupons on one item, "Most manufacturers limit savings to one coupon per item purchased." So basically they are saying no- you can't use both types of coupons on the same item. If you read the fine print on your paper coupon, most state that there is a limit of one coupon per purchase.

Happy Couponing just recently published a post about e-coupon etiquette and why it is bad to double dip by using both an e-coupon and a paper coupon.

There are some exceptions to the one-coupon-per-item rule. Some stores allow you to use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item. According to Target's coupon policy, you can use both coupons on the same item at Target. Upromise e-coupons are another exception to the rule. You can use a manufacturer coupon in the store and still get the Upromise e-coupon savings transferred to your Upromise account. Super Fresh is a participant in the Upromise program.

Super Fresh Internet Printable Coupon Policy

Last week Super Fresh discretely announced on the last page of the sale ad that they were now accepting Internet printable coupons. I checked with customer service for more details about the policy and this is what they had to say:

- Internet printed coupons are now accepted.
- No Internet printed coupons for free products are accepted unless the coupon requires an additional purchase.
- Buy one get one free Internet printed coupons are accepted.
- Internet printed coupons with a value over $5.00 will not be accepted.
- Stores can accept up to two of the same coupon if the customer buys more than one of the item.
- Acceptance of any coupon is at the discretion of store management.

I am personally not a big fan of Internet printables because sometimes is it such a hassle to get cashiers to accept them. I haven't tried to use them yet at Super Fresh. Have you tried using them since they changed the policy? How did it go?

Guacamole Mother lode at Super Fresh

25 cents each!

Ahhh, yes! I found a guacamole goldmine at Super Fresh this morning. Six packages of Wholly Guacamole for $1.50. Yum.

I have two Super Fresh stores that I frequent in my area. One has a shelf price of $2.99 for Wholly Guacamole and the other I noticed just this morning has a shelf price of $1.50. So I was prepared to use my $1.50 off Wholly Guacamole coupon from the 9/13 Smart Source insert to get a free package BUT the packages all had $1 off Produce Manager Special coupons on them because they are all expiring over the next few days. So they were selling each package for 50 cents each. The cashier allowed me to use my $1.50 off coupon too!

Don't worry- I am not going to be gorging myself to finish all my guacamole this weekend before it expires. You can freeze the packages.

So check your Super Fresh to find the shelf price of Wholly Guacamole and you may be able to score a free package with the $1.50 off coupon. There was also a $.55 off coupon in a recent issue of Good Housekeeping that will double to $1.10.

Super Fresh Accepting Internet Printables!

This weeks' Super Fresh ad states that they are now accepting internet printable coupons! The announcement is buried on the bottom of page 10 of the ad. I contacted customer service this evening and I will post more details about the policy once I find out more.

I'll admit it- I haven't been to CVS in months. It is just too hard to take the kids to CVS while school's out because I need to concentrate when I am CVSing. (Also I still have about 12 tubes of free toothpaste and 3 bottles of free shampoo in my stockpile, so there was no dire need to go there over the summer break.)

But now I have a reason to get back into the drugstore game! I joined the CVS Advisor Panel ages ago, but I never heard anything from them. Today I received a survey invitation and in return for completing the approximately 15 minute survey, I received $15 in Extra Bucks!
