Coupons in February Parents Magazine

There are quite a few coupons in the February issue of Parents magazine. You will find coupons for 50 cents off Eggland's Best Eggs, 20% off Gymboree, $1 off 7 jars of Earth's Best baby food, $1 off 2 Earth's Best Sesame Street products, and (my favorite!) $1 off $3 or more purchase of up & up products at Target.

I signed up for Parents magazine last year when they were offering a free 1 year subscription. I don't usually read too much of the magazine but occasionally some good coupons show up!

Reader Question: Stacking Super Fresh E-Coupons & Paper Coupons

Penny Possibilities reader jahi999 asked:

Do you know if I can use a Superfresh clipless coupon from my card and stack it with a manufacturer coupon? I was wondering because they have Hellmans mayo for 2 for $6. They have a $1 off of 2 clipless coupon that I added to my card and I also have a $1 off 2 manufacturer coupon.

jahi999-

This is an excellent question. For other readers who may not know, you can now load clipless coupons directly from the Super Fresh site on to your Super Fresh Club card. For the most part, these e-coupons are not store coupons. They are paperless manufacturer coupons.

According to the FAQ section of the Super Fresh coupon website in response to the question about using both paper and clipless coupons on one item, "Most manufacturers limit savings to one coupon per item purchased." So basically they are saying no- you can't use both types of coupons on the same item. If you read the fine print on your paper coupon, most state that there is a limit of one coupon per purchase.

Happy Couponing
just recently published a post about e-coupon etiquette and why it is bad to double dip by using both an e-coupon and a paper coupon.

There are some exceptions to the one-coupon-per-item rule. Some stores allow you to use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item. According to Target's coupon policy, you can use both coupons on the same item at Target. Upromise e-coupons are another exception to the rule. You can use a manufacturer coupon in the store and still get the Upromise e-coupon savings transferred to your Upromise account. Super Fresh is a participant in the Upromise program.

Red Plum Coupons Back in the Washington Post

Back in February, Red Plum coupon inserts disappeared from the Washington Post Sunday paper and they started coming in the mail instead. Last week the Red Plum inserts reappeared in my Post. I did some research on redplum.com and it looks like there will be no more Red Plum inserts coming in the mail in my area. Go here to find out where to get Red Plum coupons in your area.

My Coupon Organization System

In order to be an effective coupon shopper, you need a coupon organization system that works for you. I use two coupon folders and a toddler shoebox to store my coupons. I keep the two folders in my purse at all times. In them, I keep the coupons of products that I often buy along with restaurant coupons. I store all of my other coupons that I am less likely to use in the shoebox.

Why do I keep the coupons in the shoebox even though I probably won't use them? I keep them mainly for the Drugstore Game. You never know what will be free after ECBs and coupons at CVS. For example, I recently got a bunch of Herbal Essences shampoos from CVS. I don't normally use that brand but I saved the coupons in my shoebox. Even though it is not my usual brand, I am happy to try it if it is free. I also use the coupons from this box during triple coupon week to get items for free or almost free.

In both the folders and the shoebox, I sort the coupons by these categories:
Folder 1
- Bread, Cereal, Crackers & Snacks
- Baking, Spices, Dessert, Candy
- Canned Food
- Dairy
- Pasta, Rice, Potatoes
- Sauces, Spreads, Oil, Jam
Folder 2
- Restaurants
- Store Coupons
- Cleaners, Soaps
- Paper, Plastic, Foil
- Frozen
- Fresh Produce, Fruit Juices
- Meat
- Toiletries
- Dental
- Medical
- Batteries, Light Bulbs
- Baby, Kids
- Other Coupons, Rebate Forms
My categories have evolved over time and they are still changing. For example, I need to split out my Toiletries category to make it more manageable. Other people who use coupon folders organize their categories based on the layout of the aisles in their grocery store. I have also heard of couponers sorting by expiration date or alphabetically.

When I prepare for a trip to the grocery store, I pull out all of the coupons that I plan to use from my folders and box and I put them in an envelope along with my list and sale ad. This way I am not digging around for coupons at the store. I also bring along my two coupon folders just in case I see an unadvertised deal on a favorite product. I leave the shoebox at home.

This system is working well for me right now but it is constantly evolving. My system does involving clipping all the coupons and filing them. The process can be time consuming. This coupon system may not be the best for you. There are a few other systems to check out:
- Coupon Binder: Coupons are clipped and filed in baseball card pages in a 3 ring binder.
- Filing By Insert: Coupons are not clipped. Newspaper inserts are stored intact by date.
- Envelope Method: Coupons are clipped and sorted into envelopes.
- The Couponizer: Coupons are clipped and sorted into a special booklet. This system looks great for beginning couponers but it wouldn't work for those with a large amount of coupons.

What is your coupons system? I'd love to learn some new coupon organizing tips!

Have you noticed the Gazette has started including the Smart Source coupon insert?

The Gazette is a weekly community newspaper that is delivered for free to Montgomery County, MD residents. My edition has included the coupon insert for the past several weeks. It usually does not contain all the coupons that are in the Smart Source insert in the Sunday Washington Post but you can't complain about free coupon inserts!

Old Navy Weekly Coupons: Say Bye to High Value Coupons Until April

I received word from Old Navy today that they were not going to be publishing new $75 off and $50 off coupons on the Old Navy Weekly coupon site again until April. Here is what they had to say:

"We thought we were being sneaky hiding coupons for up to $75 and $50 off on OldNavyWeekly.com. We thought it’d take some serious snooping skills for anyone to find these fabulous coupons. Then we launched the site and over million visitors proved us very, very wrong. You all hunted and found the coupons in record time week after week and in the process even managed to shut down our site a few times due to overwhelming traffic. So, while we’re flattered by all the attention we need a little time to regroup—or rather find ways to make this game of ours a little trickier to solve. So for the next few weeks, OldNavyWeekly.com will still be updated weekly but we won’t be re-seeding the premium coupons and only hiding up to $10 off any $50 purchase. But in April, we’re bringing back the premium coupons and they’ll be in even more fabulous hiding places! So be sure to keep your hunting skills sharp!"

So the site will be updating with new coupons, but the best you are going to get until April will be $10 off a $50 purchase.

25% off at the Container Store

The Container Store is offering another coupon through Oprah's website. This coupon is for 25% off and is good through April 13th. You can use it in-store, online (coupon code: CLUTTERCREW) or by phone. Unfortunately, you cannot combine the coupon with other offers and it is not good on sale items.

$5 off a $5 Purchase Coupon for Kohls

I recently signed up for Kohls Sales Alerts when it was recommended by Heather at Freebies 4 Mom. Within a few days, Kohls emails you a coupon for $5 off a $5 minimum in store purchase and a coupon code for 10% off at Kohls.com.

In the two weeks since I have signed up, I have also received two coupons for $10 off a $10 minimum in store purchase! My local Kohls store is remodeling and they are trying to lure in customers during the construction with these coupons. You can use these $10 off coupons along with percent off discount coupons but the percent off is applied after the $10 is taken off the total. I bought these two dresses for $.84 (rainbow Carter's, reg. price $22) and $1.70 (blue, reg. price $20) using the $10 off coupons and 15% off coupons.

When I visited today and bought the blue dress, they gave me yet another $10 off coupon that is valid next week!

So if your local Kohls store undergoes a remodel, I highly recommend signing up for the Sale Alert emails.
