I am going to be getting 10 boxes of Wheat Thins for $2.90 after the rebate with the printable coupon links Gina provides. I already used up my Nabisco cracker coupons that appeared in the 11/8 newspaper insert.

Safeway Lowering Prices on Grocery Staples

The Washington Post reported today that Safeway grocery stores in the Washington DC region are lowering prices on staples including paper products, laundry supplies and coffee by as much as 25%. The price changes are in response to shoppers become more frugal in their grocery shopping habits.

The new Safeway sale ad highlights some changes in everyday prices. For instance, Maxwell House Coffee 33 oz has dropped from $12.29 to $8.99, Hamburger Helper changed from $2.59 to $2, Barilla Pasta dropped from $1.85 to $1.49 and Gain Laundry Detergent 150 oz fell from $17.99 to $14.99.

I have found Safeway to have some of the highest regular prices in my local area. I occasionally shop for sale items at the store but I rarely buy regularly priced things that I need there. Safeway does have awesome sale prices from time to time, especially with their Super Coupons. I wonder if the new lower everyday prices will effect the types of sales we see at the store.

Has anyone seen Safeway dropping regular prices in any other regions of the country?

Ragu Deal at Safeway

I stumbled upon a super deal on Ragu this week at Safeway. Ragu is on sale for 99 cents and there were $1 off 3 Ragu sauce coupons in the 1/18 Red Plum insert. I bought 6 jars of Ragu and used 2 of the $1 off coupons. I paid $3.94 for the 6 jars. Two $2 off your next shopping order Catalinas printed out and they said they were compliments of Ragu.

Safeway: 72 Hour Sale Deals

Safeway is having a 72 Hour Sale today, Saturday and Sunday. I stopped by today and picked up some sweet deals on Coke, Kraft Cheese and Wheat Thins (crackers on sale all week).

12 packs of Coke, Pepsi and 7 up are $7.99 for 4. You must present the coupon from the sale ad to get this deal. Limit 1 per household. I combined this deal with four $1 off 1 Coke 12 pack coupons from My Coke Rewards and got four Coke 12 packs for $3.99.

Kraft Shredded Cheese 8 oz. is $1.49. Limit 2. At my Safeway, there were blinkie coupons right with the cheese for $.75 off 1 Kraft 2% Shredded Cheese. I got two bags for $.74 each. (A blinkie coupon is one dispensed from a SmartSource Coupon Machine that you see with a blinking red light in the grocery aisles.)

Also on sale all this week are Wheat Thins for $1.69. Pair this with the $2 off 2 Ritz, Wheat Thins or Triscuits coupon from the 1/25 Sunday paper and get two boxes for $.69 each.

Free Antibiotics at Safeway

Safeway is joining Giant in offering a free 14 day supply of antibiotics from its Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C. and Virginia stores. Customers must use their Safeway Club Card to get the free antibiotics. Click here for a list of the included drugs. The program will continue through March 31st.

Free Starbucks Tea at Safeway

More free Starbucks Tazo tea! Check the back of the Safeway sales flyer. There is a coupon for a free tall tea from Starbucks locations inside Safeway stores through January 20th.

Great Deal on Quaker Oatmeal at Safeway- Sat. & Sun. only!

Quaker Oatmeal is on sale at Safeway for $1.69 per box today and tomorrow. All varieties are on sale including High Fiber and Simple Harvest. This is a great price. It matches the price available at Costco (16.9 cents per packet) but this is even better because you can use coupons to get an awesome price! There have been $1 off 2 oatmeals, $1 off 1 Simple Harvest and $1 off 1 High Fiber coupons in September and October inserts. You can get a printable here which you can print twice.

I had been stockpiling my oatmeal coupons since they started appearing in September and waiting for a really good sale. I got 25 boxes of oatmeal today for $17.25 ($.69 per box and 7.7 cents per packet)!
